Zedekiah's Cave, Walking Tour Marathon and more

The recently reopened Zedekiah's Cave incorporates 9000 square meters of “secrets and tales” under the Old City. Reportedly the route by which King Zedekiah fled the Babylonians in the 6th century BC, it is also referred to as Solomon's Quarries -traditionally the location from which stones for the First Temple were quarried. The cave can be reached by walking along the Northern Ramparts Walk towards the Lion's Gate, descending at the Damascus Gate and continuing 200 meters northwards.

Two new tours - the Yemin Moshe neighborhood and the Via Dolorosa - have been added to the new Jerusalemp3 web site, and three more are soon to be incorporated - the Southern Ramparts Walk, Government Hill and Jaffa Road, with the De-Haaz Promenade and the Jerusalem Trail expected in June. Links to the site can also be found on the municipal tourism site.

As of April, Egged Tours is operating regular tours that include Mini-Israel, the Latrun Monastery, the Beit Guvrin Caves and Tel Marasha, in 5 languages (English, German, Spanish Russian and French). Tours leave major hotels in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Herzliya and Netanya on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Registration at hotel front desks, tour agencies and Egged.

By now a yearly tradition, Yad Ben Zvi and the Jerusalem Municipality's Tourism Authority are organizing a marathon of tours through major city sites on the weekend of May 10th-13th (Shabbat rules maintained). Over 100 routes and 7 performances during the 4-day event will be accompanied by professional guides, actors and more.
