The Audio Tours Project

Good news for all lovers of Jerusalem, its sites and attractions: the audio tours project, the first of its kind worldwide, continues to expand and now offers a choice of new options.

On the website you will find guided audio tours, in Hebrew and in English, of some 130 sites, all downloadable as MP3 files, offering Jerusalem's many visitors the ability to obtain information in advance on the city's cultural and tourism sites, as well as to independently tour those sites.

The new routes offered on the website include the Armon HaNanatziv Promenade, the Jerusalem Trail, and a private tour dedicated to old trees on the Givat Ram University Campus.

The Armon HaNatziv route provides several central observation points which let the visitor get a feel of Jerusalem from all directions. Each observation point has it own story: the Temple Mount, The City of David, the Mount of Olives, the Judean Desert, the mountains of Moab and Herodion. The tour also presents the aqueduct in the Old City and the history of the mansion of the British High Commissioner (also known as Governor's Mansion).

The Jerusalem Trail route offers an enjoyable tour along one of the most breathtaking sections of the Jerusalem Trail. The tour starts at the Cinematheque bridge and ends at the Mount Scopus observatory, meanders through Hinnom Valley and Kidron Valley, amid archeological sites, monasteries and churches, burial grounds and primordial landscapes.

The private "visit a tree" tour offers a lovely tour among a unique collection of trees on the beautiful Edmund Safra campus of the Hebrew University at Givat Ram. The trail includes the largest tree trunk in Israel – a 2000 year old Sequoia tree. Enjoy the sights and sounds of Jerusalem's nature, and "meet" eleven out of the 50 trees originally planted on campus. Each of these trees has the sign "interactive" affixed to it, containing information on the species of tree, presenting questions and answers. Visitors on the tour take an active part by smelling the trees or their fruit, quoting passages from the Bible, and so on.

How to use this service: Simple! Click here, select a route and download the appropriate file/s to the listening device of your choice (MP3 players, mobile phones, GPS/SatNav devices, or similar); or else burn the file/s onto a CD. Each tour route includes a video file, text, images and a map for printing, all allowing you to choose a route according to your own pace and interest. Have a wonderful time!
