Jerusalm City Tours

Following the lead of other major tourism capitals around the world, in 2005, the Jerusalem Municipality, in cooperation with the Egged Bus Company and the Jerusalem City-Tour Company launched this circular route around the city aboard an opened-top, double-decker bus. Explanations during the route are provided in 8 languages, including Hebrew, Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Spanish and Russian through personal earphones, introducing travelers to over 85 important sites throughout the city. During the tour, visitors may step off at any of the 25 stops, walk around and wait for the next bus to pick them up to continue the tour.

The tour begins at the Central Bus Station, passing through familiar sites, such as the Mahane Yehuda market, the Israel Museum and the Knesset. On the itinerary – historical sites, such as the Davidka Circle, with its antiquated mortar launcher from the War of Independence siege of the Old City, and Giv’at Hatahmoshet, site of the fierce trench-battle of the Six Day War conquest of East Jerusalem.

Alighting to enjoy the spectacular panoramas at Mt. Scopus and the Haas Promenade is definitely recommended. And for those arriving by train, the bus also stops at the Malha shopping center and nearby train station, with the Biblical Zoo just up the road.

The Double Decker bus may also be hired for special events, private tours and family occasions, such as Bar-Mitzvahs and weddings.
